Food safety unit, Boulogne-sur-Mer (LSAL BsM)

Research unit

Description

The food safety unit has interest in biological and chemical hazards that can affect the safety and quality of food. It is located on two sites: Maisons-Alfort and Boulogne-sur-Mer.
The Maisons-Alfort site has 120 people specialized in food safety, and the Boulogne-sur-Mer site has more than 20 people working exclusively on fishery and aquaculture products.
The unit focuses its work on biological (bacteria, viruses, parasites) and chemical (toxins, trace metals, pesticides, organic pollutants, microplastics, histamine) hazards present or likely to be present in food, especially at the distribution and consumption stages.
The unit ensures missions of reference and surveillance laboratory in support of the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as research on food hazards.
