Supramolecular Catalysis and Chemistry (CASU)

Research team

Description

The Supramolecular Catalysis Team (CASU) is located at the Faculty of Science of Lens (Université d'Artois). It aims to develop catalytic systems and environmentally friendly chemical processes, with particular emphasis on the transformation of bio-based molecules and environmental remediation. This team is particularly interested in working on reactions of interest, such as the functionalization of vegetable oils (hydroformylation hydroxymethylation, hydroaminomethylation), the hydrogenation of unsaturated fatty acids or the oxidation and thinning of alcohols. Catalytic systems in many cases involve the use of native or modified cyclodextrins, polymerized or not. They can be used in biphasic systems consisting of an aqueous and an organic phase to improve the transfer of matter (phase transfer agents, self-assembled surfactants, colloids, emulsions). Cyclodextrins can also be used as dispersants and/or structuring agents (templates) for the preparation of more efficient heterogeneous or enzymatic catalysts. The CASU team is also involved in applied research projects in collaboration with other academic teams as well as with industry. It maintains and develops various partnerships with major industrial players in the field of chemistry.

Expertises

Skills

The CASU team’s research activities are in the field of sustainable chemistry, at the interface of two disciplines: catalysis and supramolecular chemistry. Its activities revolve around the following themes: i) molecular receptors for organometallic catalysis, ii) supramolecular self-assembly for catalysis, iii) metal nanoparticles stabilized by molecular receptors and iv) materials for heterogeneous catalysis. Composed of 15 lecturers-researchers, this team is multidisciplinary and brings together skills in Homogeneous Catalysis, Heterogeneous Catalysis, Colloidal Catalysis, Supramolecular Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Preparation and Characterization of Catalytic and Nanomaterials.
